I like the idea of ''regional'' reviews, but it might be better not to limit it to ''cities'' unless you are looking for the city titles with restaurants surrounding them as well. Just a thought.
I'm looking forward to contributing my opinions!

Hey Y'all,
I am originally from the Dayton, Ohio area, but have been living down here in North Carolina for the past 30 years.
Currently living in Hillsborough (since 2001), lived in Durham in 2000, and Jacksonville 1980 to 2000.
I wasn't born in the South, but I got here as soon as I could!

Hey Y'all,
Just wanted to let all-y'all know that I've been doing LOTS of research on barbeque in North Carolina and I am willing to share my findings with you. To date (3/27/2010), I have personally visited, eaten at, and rated/reviewed the barbeque at 256 different establishments in North Carolina (as well as numerous others outside ...

''Holy Smoke'' is by far, the best book I've ever read on the subject of barbeque in general, and especially on North Carolina barbeque in particular!!!
The other books on the subject (NC BBQ) include:
“Kent's Carolina Barbecue Book: Carolina barbecue restaurant reviews, recipes, history, culture, ...

Hey Y'all,
I'm fixing on getting my ''Certified Barbeque Judge'' training and certificate from the Kansas City Barbeque Society next month and was just wondering about some of the competitions around North Carolina. It seems that a whole lot of competitions around here do NOT use KCBS CBJs on their judging panel, and I was just ...

I found another book devoted to Q-joints in North Carolina:
''Kent's Carolina Barbecue Book: Carolina barbecue restaurant reviews, recipes, history, culture, more'' By H. Kent Craig.
You probably recognize Kent as he had a GREAT website devoted to NC Q-joints for about 11 years. He has rolled that website into a book and it is ...

I totally agree!!!
If you want to know ANYTHING about NC Q - you MUST read ''Holy Smoke''!!!
MUCH better than either of Bob Garner's books or Jim Early's book on the subject of NC Q!!!!!!!!
If there are any other books out there on NC barbecue I sure would be beholding to anyone identifying them!!!

My personal favorite Q-joints in NC are:
Eastern Style: Skippers Forsyth's in Henderson and Grandpa's Kitchen in Littleton (Smithfield's Chicken & Barbecue is really good for a chain).
Lexington Style: Country Bar-B-Que in High Point, BBQ Joe's Country Cooking in High Point, Hill's Lexington Barbecue in Winston-Salem, and Tipton's

''The Pit Authentic Barbecue'' in Raleigh is Mitchell's latest entry into the world of NC BBQ.
Really up-scale joint! I couldn't believe the wine selection he has behind a glass wall. Linen tableclothes and knapkins! It aint your typical Q-joint!!!
I found the ''Chopped Whole Hog'' was a wee bit dry and chewy, but it tasted ...
