• Re: Hickory/Fruit Wood Search...

Don't know about the wood supply, but as far as where to get ''good local NC Pork Butts'' - that depends on what you consider ''local''. I usually get shoulders from ''Bethesda Provision Company'' in Durham (1712 Stage Road, Durham - (919) 596-2490) . I just bought 20 shoulders at $1.05 per pound; each shoulder weighed between ...

  • Bernie's Barbecue in Greensboro

Hey everyone, I stopped for lunch again at Bernie's Barbecue in Greensboro (2602 E Bessemer Ave, Greensboro, NC 27405 - (336) 274-1256) yesterday and just wanted to leave a comment or two on my experience. I got the sandwich with Cole slaw on the side (just the way I like it - then I can taste the pork without slaw first and then with ...

  • Re: need caterer for chick'n pick'n

Sorry, I can't help this time - my wife and I will be cruising Hawaii that day. If you have any other events or reschedule PLEASE keep me in mind. We are reasonable and pretty good too (IMHO). Good luck!

  • Re: Q-joints and other restaurants serving barbeque in North Carolina

A couple other cities you might want to list could be: Wilmington, Greenville, Winston-Salem/Greensboro, Lexington/High Point/Thomasville, Wilson, maybe Fayetteville and/or Goldsboro. Feel free to add to or subtract from these suggestions! Just trying to cover a lot of the state. I know that I've suggested a bunch, but I'm just trying to ...

  • Re: Q-joints and other restaurants serving barbeque in North Carolina

Another idea is to have a couple ''route lists'' so that if someone is traveling through NC on I-95 we can list Q-joints close to I-95 (or I-40 or I-85). Just a thought. I too have been asked for recommendations on another forum by people traveling through NC heading to Florida or Myrtle Beach. It would be great to have a pre-prepared list ...

  • Here's a Baked Bean recipe that seems pretty good IMHO.

Toms Baked Beans Catering barbecue for birthdays, family reunions, and other celebrations, we have accompanied the barbecue with several different side items. One of the most popular items that we prepare is baked beans. The following recipe I dreamed up and will actually feed about 50 people, so if smaller quantities are ...

  • Re: Holy Smoke - NC BBQ Book

It is a bit different from his webpage, with a whole lot more information on the Q-joints that he has reviewed and rated. I don't totally agree with all of his findings, but then again, I'm sure that not everyone will agree with mine either. Taste is such a personal issue. His book is definitely worth taking a gander at if you have a ...

  • Re: Q-joints and other restaurants serving barbeque in North Carolina

I definitely like the ''Must Visit'' category, as well as a break-down of cities/areas. I agree that most folks from out-of-the-area will not know the ''regional'' designations that we know; therefore, I guess that the city category breakdown will probably be best. I was just thinking about places that aren't located near large cities ...

  • Re: Barbeque Judging

I couldn't find any CBJ classes in NC, but I did find one in the city where I am originally from and my mother still lives there (Kettering Ohio). I'm incorporating the trip to see her with the training and a mini vacation for my wife and I. Thanks everyone for your responses!

  • Re: Barbeque Judging

Hey corndog, I heard that NC Pork Council holds barbecue judging classes on occasion, but I haven't been able to verify that or find a schedule for any. Have you heard anything about them?
