    Classes

I'm looking to get my Dad a BBQ class or something similar as a Christmas present. Looks like there aren't a ton of options from what I've seen online does anyone have any recs? Can be anywhere in the state, he loves to travel so location is not a concern.

I saw the NC State BBQ camp but I guess it's a lottery so not guaranteed, and the site was hard to navigate/sparse on info. Grillbillies in Wendell has regular classes, are they any good?

    Thanks!

    Re: Classes

That's a great idea! I have heard of the NC State BBQ camp (contact the North Carolina Meat Processors Association (NCMPA)) but really don't know much about it. I did a search and as you mentioned it's pretty popular and more of a lottery to get in but looks to be a great education for those that gets accepted. I have not heard of the Grillbillies in Wendell event though so can't be of much help there.

As another side option, I did see KCBS will be holding a "Certified Barbeque Judging Class" in Greenwood, SC on 1/25/25. While they won't teach you how to cook bbq (but you can ask questions to the cooks), they teach you how to judge bbq. Here's some additional info on that:

Certified Barbeque Judging Class - Greenwood, SC
    1/25/2025 - 1/25/2025
    Contest ID Number: 38253
    120 Main Street
    Greenwood, SC 29646

    Primary Contact Person: Gibson Hill
    Phone: 864.942.8448
    Email: gibson.hill@gwdcity.com

Maybe we need to get a few more of us out there teaching how to cook NC BBQ now :)
