Basic Eastern North Carolina Sauce

Basic recipe for NC BBQ Sauce

2 qt. Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4 cup Salt
1 1/2 T Black Pepper
1 T Crushed Red Pepper
1 T Texas Pete Hot Sauce (or Tabasco)

Combine all ingredients and mix well.

Use to baste the pig and serve with chopped BBQ. Seal leftovers and it can be used for several months.

  No cayenne pepper, and Texas Pete. No respecting Southerner should ever list anything from Texas in a recipe. (Sorry, the Redskins fan coming out in me)

  LOLOL Texas Pete originated in and is still made in NC. Only thing it has to do with Texas is the name.
